There is no racing today, as an extra free day was added to the normal eight-day Olympic rowing schedule to accommodate the conditions. Since many of the B/C/D finals were rowed yesterday, there is less activity on the course today, but what activity there is is extremely focussed. Conditions are, as i would happen, as good as they've been here during racing hours.
Update: the Canadian pair's appeal has been denied, and the crew will not row tomorrow. At noon local time, a decision on the men's pair seven-boat final had been expected, but did not arrive until later in the afternoon; I'll update when we hear the verdict. Meanwhile, the Canadian pair was training in anticipation of rowing, and the South African pair has reportedly written a letter in support of Canada's request to row in a seven-boat final. Yesterday while being interviewed, the Canadian pair wore shirts by the Roots company with the very large letters RIGHT TO PLAY.
University of Minnesota folks: Sonia Waddell and Mike Wherley both went to U of Minn; Sonia was a track athlete, and Mike as you know was on the club rowing team.
The canoe-kayak folks have arrived in force; I'd say the mix on the water was 60-40 in favor of rowing shells this morning, but they're getting close.
Kenyan sculler is reportedly extremely dedicated to the teaching and expansion of rowing in Kenya. Looks like row2k will need a new news category for "Africa news..."

Here's one from a row2k reader: "I just looked at the roster of the Australian Mens 8. Out of 8 oarsmen, 3 had the last name "Stewart" (all brothers) and 2 had the first name "Stuart." It makes coxswains think before yelling 'hey Stewart'. "
There are snorklers up and down the lanes diving to pull out weeds; the sight of flippers flapping skyward in lane 3 is something even I haven't seen at a regatta before.
